WHO IS TOINE HOEFS and WHY IS RMDS SPONSORING A CLINIC WITH HIM?
Toine [pronounced "Twan"] Hoefs is a rider, trainer and breeder of Dutch
sport horses in Erp, Nederlands. He is also a breed judge for the KWPN in
The Nederlands. Recently he has gained notice in the United States through
Sport Horse and riding clinics he has given to NEDA, [the New England
Dressage Association] and judging Dressage at Devon in 2003. USEF has
arranged for him to instruct the USEF Sport Horse Judges Forum at DG Bar
Ranch in California this October 18,19, 2005. Toine raised the stallion
Juventus, currently owned by and standing at Iron Spring Farm in
Pennsylvania. In addition, he raised and owns the 2004 KWPN Stallion Show
Champion Uptown, who went on to be first in all 3 categories at the Dutch 70
day Stallion testing which ended in November 2004.
RMDS jumped on the opportunity to invite Toine to Colorado on his way to
California. Toine will be available on Friday October 14, 2005 to observe
horses of all ages and discuss with their owners and the audience what
aspects of the horses conformation affect their way of going. Toine will be
able to give feedback to owners of young horses on their potential as
stallion prospects, performance horses and breeding stock. The day is
planned to be highly interactive, with questions from the auditors
encouraged as well as from the owners. Toine will also discuss what criteria
would be brought to bear for horses looking to be placed in the KWPN
registry.
In the course of the presentation of horses in hand, Toine will also work
with handlers on how best to present their horses to maximize good aspects
and minimize weak points.
Mature horses under saddle will also be observed and discussed. These
horses will be discussed from a conformation standpoint on Friday, and then
will return for a riding session on Saturday, where their conformation
issues will be addressed in developing a training plan for each particular
horse, incorporating their conformation, age, performance goals and past
history. This section of the clinic will be shared between both Toine and
Kathy Connelly. On Sunday, Kathy will continue the riding clinic for each
horse, and will discuss as well how long lining and the development of
piaffe would influence each horse.
RMDS will be accepting applications for horses in the clinic starting
August 10, 2005. A video and questionnaire will be reviewed and applicants
selected by Sept 5. Watch the June Centaur for clinic applications. RMDS
would like to present a full spectrum of horses from weanlings to Grand
Prix, so everyone is eligible to attend!
